The Trailside Neighborhood

Trailside is located directly west of Fort Morgan about 1 1/2 miles, along side old U.S. highway 6 and 34. In years past this area was trailside to commerce and travelers, some beginning on U.S. 6 in California and journeying east as far as Pennsylvania. Both historic highways offered direct routes to Chicago, U.S. 34 to the north and U.S. 6 a more southerly route. Since I-76 now bypasses the area, the neighborhood is quiet and picturesque irrigated farms are the norm, many owned for generations by the same family.

In the spring, nearby fields are tilled and planted to corn, wheat and other crops. Corn is knee-high by July 4th and wheat is harvested. August brings the strength of tasseling corn, higher than the horizon. The sweet smell of 4th cutting hay fills the fall air and lingers until the first light snow occurs. Winter is a celebration of animals - watching cattle graze cornstalks and geese flying in the Platte River Valley.

The grocery store is 5 minutes away as well as the hair stylist, floral shop, post office, doctor, video store, dress shop, hardware store, book store, library and bank.

A quiet paved road frames Trailside on the south and provides a quick 2 mile bicycle ride to the Fort Morgan recreational fields and park where the kids play baseball.
